Fostering understanding and growth for children and parents
I work with students and families to support their growth and personal development. My professional experience includes serving as a classroom teacher and a school counselor, working with elementary through high school-aged students. Therefore, I am in a unique position to provide academic and emotional coaching, guidance for navigating the school system, and tips on getting along with peers and family members. I collaborate with students to develop behavior and motivational plans to address common challenges during their educational journey.
Together, we'll cultivate growth and understanding.

What I provide
I am here to provide support for change. Clearly something is not working presently in the client’s life, and they wish for change. I am here to listen and help people discover what they feel. I work with them to identify options and discuss steps to move forward. We work together to discover their own strengths and to pinpoint how they can help themselves. I am here to help people choose a better path forward in order to grow and feel happier.
I am a counselor who works with people (parents and students) who are considered mentally healthy. I am not a licensed mental health worker which means I do not diagnose or treat mental disorders, conditions, addictions, or abuse. In my work I do not focus on the past but instead on the present and the future.

For Students:
Do you feel misunderstood at times?

Do you wish someone would listen to your side of the story?

Do you get frustrated with teachers or adults in your life?

Do you ever feel bullied or like you wish you had more friends?

For Parents:
Do you feel overwhelmed with your child sometimes not knowing how to parent anymore?

Do you find yourself losing your temper and saying things you swore you’d never say to your child?

Do you feel taken for granted by your teenager when your life revolves around their need for a taxi?

Are you not on the same page with your partner in how to approach sticky situations with your child?

About Carter
For more than 30 years I have worked with parents and children, helping them look more carefully at their lives so that they can make positive changes and feel more successful. If you are looking for change and want to try to work together, contact me. Let’s see if we can work together to create a supportive environment for growth and a path forward! Additionally, I have experience teaching parenting classes and assisting parents in developing strategies to support their child's growth into adulthood. This includes fostering empathy, understanding the child's point of view, setting boundaries, and building positive relationships. Support and practical techniques can help parents address difficulties, especially when working with challenging children.
*Please note that I am not a licensed mental health worker in the state of New Hampshire. Though I am not licensed, I hold two master's degrees—one in School Counseling and one in Expressive Arts Therapy —and have years of experience as a teacher and counselor. While I do not offer licensed mental health services, I use my background and expertise to assist families and children with academic and emotional challenges. My services are designed to empower and guide, but if your child or family requires clinical mental health support, I strongly encourage you to seek assistance from a qualified mental health provider.
